Two McMaster pregnancy research projects have received a total of $436,000 in funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

Giulia Muraca, an assistant professor in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact, and Rohan D’Souza, an associate professor in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact, received $336,000 to lead a study focused on advancing equity in maternal and perinatal care in Canada. The study will investigate racial and ethnic disparities in severe maternal morbidity (SMM) and severe perinatal morbidity and mortality (SPMM).

Muraca and D'Souza received an additional $100,000 to lead a study alongside Isabelle Malhame, an assistant professor of medicine at McGill University, and Maria Ospina, an associate professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at Queen's University, that aims to conceptualize maternal morbidity through the lens of a diverse, global group of individuals with pregnancy experience.
